Every eight days locally made boats like the one in this photograph dock at Ijora, on the
Lagos Lagoon, to deposit cargoes of local gin, crayfish, other seafood and sundry
items originating in Nigeria's southern Niger Delta communities. Then they pick up
empty barrels and other city goods for the return journey to the delta, running a route
plied by local boatmen for centuries.
