About the author
r
Uzor Maxim
Uzoatu was born in 1960. He was educated at the universities of Ife
(now Obafemi Awolowo University) and Lagos, and was the 1989
Distinguished Visitor at the Graduate School of Journalism, University
of Western Ontario, Canada. An iconoclast dubbed 'The Poet' by his
compatriots, he stubbornly refused to publish a collection of his poetry
save for verses and cantos relayed by boon companions. God of
Poetry marks his break with a poverty-glamourising career in
ragged-trousered philanthropy. He is married with children.
The Poet is fortunate that those in power don't take time to read verse,
otherwise they would tie him to a stake and shoot him.
- Adewale Maja-Pearce
God of Poetry is a complete celebration of language mastery and
poetic artistry.
